Evaluate the degradation of Polycarbonate sheets with effective color measurement

Polycarbonate is widely used in different applications. Some of the advantages of the material are light weight and high value of Impact strength when to compare to the normal glass. The long-term stability of the material is an important aspect that decides its quality and applicability for long-term applications. The industries need to test the long-term stability of the polycarbonate materials with the help of proper test methods and instruments. The manufacturers of the Polycarbonate sheets need to ensure that the products they deliver to their customers have a long-term stability and are able to withstand the harsh conditions for a long time.

Effect of environmental factors and its testing
The environmental factors such as sunlight, UV exposure, moisture, etc. can leave a degrading effect on the quality of the polycarbonate. The environmental test chambers can be used for replicating the conditions to which the test specimen are to be subjected. In order to test the stability and lifecycle of the polycarbonate, there are different environmental testing instruments used by the industries that replicate the actual working conditions to which the polycarbonate sheets are subjected.

How color measurement can help?
The color measurement is a very efficient method for evaluating the stability of the polycarbonate sheets. Before the test is conducted on the polycarbonate sample, then the color of the sample is measured with the help of devices such as color testers. Once the color of the specimen is measured, the test is conducted on the specimen with specified methods. After the test is complete, the color of the sample is tested again.

The color testers can easily test the colors, and if there is any difference in the colors of the specimen before and after testing, then the instruments can measure that. This color difference measured by the instruments can be used easily to evaluate the rate of degradation of the specimen in a given set of environmental conditions. The color of the sheets is one of the primary indicators or degradation in polymers and wit color testing; one can easily understand the process of degradation in the material.
With the help of color measurement, it is also possible to analyze the various properties of color that are incorporated to the polycarbonate sheets.

Testronix offers a wide range of color testers like a colorimeter, and spectrophotometers that can be used for effective analysis of the colors of different objects with great accuracy and precision.
